Steve, along with wife Michelle, established Smart Financial in October 2008. He has nearly 20 years’ experience in the profession, having been a Partner and Managing Director at previous firms and is a Chartered and Certified Financial Planner (CFP), a holder of the Investment Management Certificate and a former Assessor of the CFP licence.
Steve was an active member of the Manchester branch of the IFP before its amalgamation with the CISI, holding the position of Chair from 2009 until 2014. He also used to sit on the Financial and Legal Sector Panel. He speaks regularly at Financial Planning meetings around the country and is also a regular contributor to a wide range of feature articles on financial and money management related subjects across trade, local and national press.
Steve also leads Financial Planning Training Academy, a specialist training business set up to train financial advisers to become accomplished Financial Planners.
Steve is married to Michelle and they have two boys, he is a keen runner and crossfitter, an Ironman triathlete and is a committed fund raiser for the Cystic Fibrosis trust and other related charities. He has recently competed in the CF Warrior Games where his team raised over £14,000 for the CF Warrior charity.
Steve’s next target is to run a sub-3 hour marathon which he hopes to achieve in December 2019.
As the needs of the business’ clients changed, Steve established Smart Trustee Services Limited (Smart SSAS) in 2011.
Michelle Martin – Director
Michelle established Smart Financial alongside husband Steve in October 2008. She is the Head of Finance and is the principal point of contact for Smart SSAS.
Michelle holds an honours degree in International Management and Spanish. Having joined Shell Chemical’s graduate scheme in 1999 she progressed to an account management role before leaving to take up a management position with Albion Chemicals. In 2007 Michelle joined Steve at their previous firm before setting up Smart in 2008.
Michelle is married to Steve and mum to their two boys, Charlie and Harry. In her spare time she enjoys keeping fit, travel and the sunshine! She is a keen fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
Tamsin Caine MSc., FPFS – Director of Financial Planning
Chartered Financial Planner
Tamsin heads our client-facing team, with responsibility for looking after a large section of our valuable client base, forging close working relationships with many of our professional business partners and business strategy. She also heads our Investment Committee. In February 2018, she lead the launch of Smart Divorce, which works with separating and divorcing clients to help them to sort out their finances amicably. Tamsin is a trainer for the Financial Planning Training Academy and mentors a number of other financial planners, being dedicated to improving standards within the profession.
She has a strong background of over 15 years within the financial services profession and is exceptionally well qualified being a Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Financial Planner and a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society. Tamsin is also a member of Resolution and sits on their Innovation Committee. She is also on the regional committee for the Personal Finance Society and the national PFS Practitioner Panel.
Tamsin is mum to two children, Charlie and Zoe. When she’s not at work, Tamsin enjoys running, baking and rugby. She is the Membership Secretary of Sale FC Rugby Club, where she previously coached and was awarded the honour of being one of the Vice Presidents of the club.
Charlotte Walker, DipPFS – Technical Adviser
Charlotte joined Smart in July 2018, after graduating from Manchester Metropolitan University with a 1st class degree in Accounting and Finance. Charlotte has recently achieved her Level 4 Diploma in Financial Planning.Outside of work Charlotte enjoys challenging herself to reach new personal fitness goals, in 2018 she completed her first 10k and half Tough Mudder. This year she completed a full Tough Mudder. Her next goal is a half marathon.
